I think it is safe to say that most writers like stationary.  Anytime I have gone to a writing workshop I have always seen the most elaborate notebooks and pens scattered around the table.

And don't you think those hello kitty headphones are so cute?  Perfect for listening to writing playlists!

This morning was exciting! I signed my contract with Puffin Ireland for my first two teenage novels.  The first one is called Angel Kiss and will be out in early 2011.  Here I am in my agent's office.  (My Dad took the photo!)  It's also my birthday today so afterwards my Dad and I went for tea and cake.

Gift Books

Winter is a time when glossy gift books make their way onto our wish lists.  It's great to give or receive a beautiful hardcover that one can return to again and again.  Here are some of my favourites from 2009:

Influence by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.  In this book the twins talk to a selection of people who have inspired them, including Karl Lagerfeld and Diane von Furstenberg.  The Olsens come across as a very insightful and intelligent pair as they speak to a wonderful collection of creative people.

The Audrey Hepburn Treasures - this beautiful book contains lots of pictures and mementos from Audrey Hepburn's life.  Copies of family photos, handwritten letters, programmes, movie tickets and lots of other pretty things.  It provides a fancinating insight into the life of an icon.

Miss Dahl's Volumptuous Delights by Sophie Dahl - a lovely cookbook with beautiful pictures, yummy recipes and delightful anecdotes from a writer with a uniquely magical style.  I mentioned this book previously and keep going back to it for inspiration.  I know absolutely nothing about cooking but I think this is a lovely present for Sophie Dahl fans.

New Moon

I am currently getting very excited about New Moon's release next Friday the 20th.  My brother got me tickets for my birthday (which is on the same day).  He's a Twilight nerd, or 'twerd' as they are affectionately called.  We're going to see it at one minute past midnight! I was tempted to buy a New Moon t-shirt today but then realised I am almost twenty-three and perhaps a little old?!

Anybody else heading to a midnight showing?

Gifts for Writers

It's November and that can only mean one thing.  Christmas present planning time!  During the next few weeks I'll be posting about some pretty gifts that would be perfect for your writery friends, or for putting on your Christmas wishlist!  The above necklaces are all from the fab online jewellery store This Charming Girl. They have some of the cutest necklaces on the planet. I got the typewriter one for a writer friend a while back and she loved it.
