Coveted Cover
I bought this book today (not solely because of the cover, although I have been guilty of that!) I heard great things about YA author Sarah Dessen so I thought I'd give her a try. 'Read her once and fall in love,' is her tagline. Sounds promising! If you are on the lookout for some other YA novels check out this Teen Reads article i wrote for my local paper, The Leinster Leader here!

Galway Girl

Hello Everyone. Sorry I haven't updated in a while....I was down at the Galway Arts Festival for a few days. It was great. I went to lots of events and exhibitions. And I went to see two plays - Blackbird by David Harrower and DNA by Dennis Kelly. My trip was a bit of an afterthought so by the time I got down there nearly all the plays were booked out, but there were a few seats available for these two.
Blackbird tells the story of a woman who fell in love with and was abused by a thirty-year-old man when she was 12. Some fifteen years later she goes to visit him at his workplace, and the play follows the conversation that takes place between. I knew nothing about the story of the play before I went in, and it's not clear what is going on from the start, so I got quite the shock when the reality of their relationship was revealed. The two actors who played the main characters were amazing and I really enjoyed it.
DNA was performed by Galway Youth Theatre. The cast members looked like they probably ranged in age from about 14 to 18 but I'm not totally sure. Anyway they were super talented. The play was about a group of teenagers who believe that they may have killed their friend - so they try to frame someone else for the murder. A darkly comic affair and one of the best plays I have ever seen. I had almost forgotten how much I adored the theatre, but this really reminded me. The play is set in a forest and a simple projected video of tree trunks, a car seat and an abandoned fridge made up the entire set. Very clever and effective. The actors were amazingly talented. This is the second Irish Youth Theatre I have seen in action and I was most impressed- they are much more like professional theatre companies than amateur theatre groups.
More on the Galway Arts Festival to follow! (If you are in the area I would highly recommend you go see either of these plays.)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I saw it last night and it was amazing. I think it is my favourite Harry Potter film yet, although I do have a huge soft spot for the first one. It made me want to read the books again. The films are great but the magic of actually reading J.K. Rowling's words cannot be beaten.
It was so brilliant to be in the middle of hundreds of devout Harry Potter fans. Yesterday was the official Irish release date and it was showing all day in my local cinema. The blossoming of the Hermione - Ron relationship is so cute to watch. And Ginny Weasley has turned into a right little minx! Loved the way her character has developed. Luna Lovegood is just so funny! Of course the ending is very sad, there were even a few tears shed in the cinema. I really want to go see it again. Might try fit another showing in next week!
What did you guys think?

Gossip Girl

Where have you been all my life?! I arrived late to the phenomenon that is Gossip Girl. It is shown on one channel here in Ireland, but I never seemed to be at home when it was on. Then I saw the Series 1 boxset on sale in HMV and figured it was worth a try. From the very first episode I loved it! High fashion, cute guys and dirty scandal - what more could a girl ask for? In the beginning Serena was my favourite, but now I just love Blair. Cannot wait to see series 2, Don't tell me what happens! :)

Potter Mania

The London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince took place last night but we have to wait another whole week for the release here in Ireland. I am seriously excited! I've heard rumours that this installment may even be Oscar worthy. Has anybody seen it yet? If so I am insanely jealous!!

Isn't this this pretty portait of Jane Austen's Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice delightful? And it is available on Etsy! (seen on the blog 'Jane Austen Today')
